The short animated film Hair Love won an Oscar last night.
Written and directed by former NFL player Mathew Cherry.
The official description of the short film is a heartfelt story about a father learning how to do his young daughter’s hair for the first time.
As Cherry mentioned in his acceptance speech “Hair Love” was made because we wanted to see more representation in Animation that normalizes black hair, he also mentioned the CROWN Act ( Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural hair) a California law which prohibits discrimination based on hairstyle and texture.
A special guest was also personally invited to the Awards show, Deandre Arnold, an 18 year-old Texas High Schooler who was suspended and told to cut off his dreadlocks or else he would not be able to graduate.
A big congrats to the winning of this lovely, sweet and important short film!
